Buying online in Cameroon without getting scammed: 6 habits

The most common scams on WhatsApp and Facebook, and simple habits to avoid them.

1. Never pay « to reserve »

A seller asking for an immediate MoMo transfer « to hold the item » puts all the risk on you. On Mokolo you also pay when ordering, but the money stays secured with Mokolo until the parcel is in your hands.

2. Ask for photos of the real item

A picture found online proves nothing. Ask for a photo of the item next to a note with your name and the date, or a short video.

3. Check the shop, not just the price

A price far below the market is often a trap. Look at the shop's age, sales and reviews from buyers who actually received their parcel.

4. Keep every proof

Chat screenshots, payment receipt, courier number: if something goes wrong, that is your evidence. In Mokolo, everything is kept in the order and the chat.

5. Open the parcel before giving your code

With Mokolo, only give your Mokolo Code to the courier after checking the parcel. That is when the seller receives the money: the code is your signature.

6. Refuse payments outside the app

A seller offering a « direct, cheaper » payment removes all your protection. A payment made outside Mokolo can't be tracked or refunded.
